Pro Panel Receptions

At past events, the SLO GranFondo has hosted Pro Panel Receptions where attendees could hear directly from these riders. The 2015 reception, featuring Bob Roll and Dotsie Bausch, was held at the Old Custom House in Avila Beach the evening before race day. These gatherings offered an opportunity to gain insight from cycling industry experts and top competitors in an intimate setting.

The SLO GranFondo has long been a gathering place for professional cyclists who share a passion for the Central Coast's challenging terrain and breathtaking scenery. These elite riders bring a level of expertise and inspiration that elevates the entire event. Participants have the rare opportunity to ride alongside athletes who have competed at the highest levels of the sport, from Grand Tours to World Championships. The presence of these pros transforms the GranFondo into something more than a ride—it becomes a shared experience where amateurs and professionals alike push their limits along the rolling hills and coastal highways of San Luis Obispo County.

Among the professional riders who have joined the SLO GranFondo are former Tour de France competitors and accomplished domestic racers. These athletes have contributed to the event's reputation by participating in panel discussions, leading group rides, and engaging with the cycling community in a meaningful way. Their stories of training, racing, and overcoming challenges resonate with riders of all abilities. The Giro Della Costa Centrale edition has especially drawn pros who appreciate the unique blend of challenging climbs, ocean views, and the welcoming atmosphere that defines this Central California cycling tradition.

The involvement of professional cyclists helps reinforce the SLO GranFondo's commitment to promoting safe, healthy, and community-driven cycling. These riders often speak about the importance of proper preparation, bike handling skills, and the camaraderie that makes long-distance riding so rewarding. For many participants, sharing the road with a cycling legend is a highlight that keeps them returning year after year. The pros themselves frequently remark on the beauty of the course and the hospitality of the local community, from Avila Beach to the inland valleys that showcase the best of California's diverse landscape.

Beyond the race itself, the pro riders contribute to the broader mission of the SLO GranFondo, which supports local beneficiaries and promotes cycling as a lifelong activity. Their presence draws media attention, inspires young riders, and strengthens the event's connection to the professional cycling world. Whether they are signing autographs, offering tips during the pre-ride reception, or simply riding at a conversational pace alongside a nervous first-timer, these athletes embody the inclusive spirit that the GranFondo represents. Each edition builds on this legacy, creating new memories for everyone involved.

VIP Ride & Wine

On Saturday, October 28, 2017, the SLO GranFondo held a VIP Ride & Wine with Bob Roll and other pro riders. Participants enjoyed a 40-mile ride through Edna Valley wine country toward Lopez Lake, followed by cocktails and food — a chance to ride alongside some of the best in the sport and socialize afterward.
