Race Champions Return

At the second Giro Della Costa Centrale, held November 14–15, 2015 in Avila Beach, California, Blake Anton and Jane Despas successfully defended their titles in the SLO GranFondo 100-mile race. The event, presented by VisitAvilaBeach.com, drew riders from across the region to compete on four timed routes ranging from 25 to 100 miles.

The weekend combined competitive cycling with community celebration. Riders tackled scenic courses through San Luis Obispo County's coastal and wine country terrain before gathering for the post-race Festivale Italiano, featuring food, wine, and camaraderie.

Training for an event like the Giro Della Costa Centrale requires dedication, but the reward is crossing the finish line amid the cheers of fellow cyclists and supporters. The varied terrain of San Luis Obispo County offers ideal preparation grounds, with its mix of coastal flats and challenging climbs. Riders spend months building endurance and honing their skills, often forming training groups that foster lasting friendships. Four Timed Routes

The Giro Della Costa Centrale offered something for every rider, with four distinct timed courses:

25 Miles

A shorter, fast-paced route ideal for riders looking for a spirited challenge without the full century distance.

50 Miles

A mid-distance course balancing endurance and speed through the rolling Central Coast landscape.

100 Miles

The premier century route where Blake Anton and Jane Despas claimed their defending victories.

Festivale Italiano

After the timed events concluded, riders and spectators gathered for the Festivale Italiano — a post-race celebration with food, wine, and live atmosphere. The festival capped a weekend that also included a Pro Panel Reception featuring Bob Roll and Dotsie Bausch at the Old Custom House in Avila Beach on November 14, 2015.

The Giro Della Costa Centrale is produced by Race SLO and continues the tradition of bringing world-class cycling events to San Luis Obispo County.
